THE ART OF

THE VIOLIN

THE IX CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL

Under the title “The Art of the Violin”, the ninth edition of the festival Málaga Clásica pays tribute to an instrument significantly relevant to music’s history, inspiring and influencing so many composers.

With the central axis being chamber music, each concert pays homage to several violinists that marked an era for the instrument, either writing chamber works themselves or having pieces dedicated to them. We will perform a selection of these chamber favourites. By showing a preference for particular repertoires, figures such as Ysaye, Joachim and Sarasate contributed to the immortalization of great composers.

THE ART OF THE VIOLIN

During the intervals, we will also learn about the relation between luthier, performer and composer. Such ties can give rise to new repertoires, forming new paths to explore for future generations. One example is the bow maker Tourte, whose bow model, developed together with Kreutzer's bow technique and the performance of a Beethoven's sonata, expanded the instrument's expressive possibilities.

Each violinist and composer presented within the program has earned a place on the violinistic podium. We will often dedicate their nicknames for many of the musical encounters performed throughout the festival. For example, Paganini "The Devil", Kreisler "The King", Enescu "The Genius"... will give shape to several concerts, where we will explore the figure and the relevance of these artists within the context of the violin and chamber music.
