Critics have praised Jesús Reina as a violinist “with a beautiful sound characterized by true musicality, temperament and charisma” (El País). Jesús Reina has performed with the Malaga Philarmonic, Barcelona Symphony, Asturias Symphony, National Arts Center Orchestra and Mariinsky Theater Orchestra, with conductors such as Eiji Oue, Valery Gergiev, Pinchas Zukerman, Guy Braunstein and Ari Rasilainen. Additionally, Reina has performed in halls such as National Auditorium in Madrid, Palau in Barcelona, Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall and Glinka Hall of Saint Petersburg’s Philharmonic, among many others.
Jesús Reina has also participated in festivals such as the Miami International Piano Festival, where he will return this coming summer to perform and direct the violin program. Not only has her majesty Queen Sofía awarded Jesús Reina as the “most outstanding violinist”, but he has also received the award “Door to Andalucía”. Furthermore, Jesús received the Grand Prize at the National Solo Competition (USA) and the Waldo Mayo Memorial Competition (New York).
Jesús Reina started studying folk music on the violin with his grandfather, José. He obtained a Master of Music from the Manhattan School with his mentors Patinka Kopec and Pinchas Zukerman. Upcoming engagements include performances in various cities of the Tchaikovsky and Paganini violin concertos, the release of his CD for Centaur Records and a US and China concert tour. Reina is a professor at Alfonso X University, co-founder and professor at the Galamian Academy, and director of Málaga Clásica. Moreover, Jesús Reina received the Honorary Medal of Málaga and the Prize for Musical Accomplishments of the Year 2017.
